I deeply express my heartfelt concerns and displeasure over the recent breach of public peace and order that unfolded in Okporojo in Oso Edda and Ndukwe in Amasiri communities, which have unfortunately stirred unnecessary tensions within these areas in the two sister local governments of Afikpo and Edda. I condemn in the strongest terms these violent clashes that occurred, underscoring that peace, unity, and dialogue are the only viable solutions to resolving communal conflicts. I want to reiterate the readiness and unwavering commitment of the relevant authorities and stakeholders to upholding peace and security for all citizens, especially during such tense moments. I urge the people of Oso Edda and Amasiri communities to embrace peaceful resolutions to any disagreements, instead of resorting to violence and untold destruction of lives and property, which pays no one any good.
I also call on the security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the remote and immediate causes of the conflicts, and ensure that those responsible for any breach of public peace are held accountable. There is a need to de-escalate the tensions and pursue peaceful negotiations, because development thrives in an atmosphere of peace and harmony.
Let us embrace peace!
